Quickie

I know, I know, I know....
I promised photos and details of my finished fingerless mitts and I don't have them. Well, actually I do have them, but I'm not going to show you.... just yet. I'm almost finished with my pair (the one with short fingers but no tips) and I thought it might be nice to post about them together. I just have to finish the fingery parts on the left glove and then you'll get to drool all over them. I really do promise.

But instead of leaving you totally out in the dust and FO photoless, I present to you College Roomie's little one:

(Don't ask me how she got the photo to rotate properly. I just copied the photo file from her - it came rotated.) This is a sweater that I knit up for her when she was born way back in the spring and she's finally getting to wear it. Isn't it, I mean she, adorable?!?!? I think I've been commissioned to create a wardrobe.

Sorry Stacey but I don't have details to share with this one. I can't remember what I used with this one. But I promise to include details on the next FO post.

Gotta get off to finish a paper for my UVA class....

But check this out : Hot Cocoa Swap! Tasty swap fun!!! And there's a contest going on!

I've also been tagged by Michelle for a Meme on 8 gross things about me. I'll have to think a little on that one and get back to ya. So check back again soon.

Fingerless Fun

Isn't it just fabulous to have a long weekend? They can be so good for the soul. Does anyone out there in blog land have any pull in the calendar and government holidays department and can swing us a few more of these throughout the year??? I would be totally grateful.

For all the amazingly brave and honorable work that our veterans out there have done for me, my family, my friends, you, and the rest of the country, I really am truly grateful. I have several friends fulfilling their service as we speak and goody packages are heading their way as I type. I was hoping the packages would be received in time for today, but you never know with military mail. Maybe they are sitting comfortably with our soldiers enjoying the tasty treats inside.

So how have I spent my long weekend so far? Well, Friday started off on a good foot as I actually got out of work at a decent time (only 30 minutes after the official end of the work day) so I headed into the city to pick up Sarah and road trip it to the other end of town to A Tangled Skein - Sarah's first visit. I knew it would be love at first sight. I picked up three lovely skeins of Classic Elite's Wool Bam Boo. One in chocolate, a classic blue, and cream. I had plans for the Fetchings I keep hearing so much about. By the time we got home there was time to have Honey take me out to Ted's for dinner and then cuddle on the couch for a little while. The weather was already turning towards rain and you know the headache was right around the corner. (It actually began to show itself before we left A Tangled Skein.)

There were plenty of items on my to do list for Saturday but unfortunately I awoke with the sure to be headache and ended up spending most of the day sleeping on and off on the couch while Honey went off to play a round of golf with the boys from the office. The only items from my to do list that got done were the dishes and these:
They would be Knitty.com's Fetchings. Quite frankly I'm a little disappointed. They turned out a little short on the hand for my taste. I'm debating frogging them. I adore the Wool Bam Boo and love the way they feel against my skin but these just aren't enough. But the idea of having fingerless gloves intrigued me. So I searched around and found these and so began my second pair:
Oh what heaven!!! I'm digging these so much that I'm planning on making several more pairs! Sarah, you've gotta try these! I bet your brother would love them too in a nice black to match his soon to be hat. The only thing holding me back is that I keep stopping to try them on. They feel sooooo wonderful on that I hate to take them off! I have a feeling I'll be knitting the second one while wearing this one!

Yesterday I spent the day catching up on some of the household chores from the day before and then an afternoon with the old roomie. We visited Kay's (Angle Neighbor) trunk show and bought a few goodies as pre-Christmas gifts for ourselves. I picked up this great little fabric bowl to house some special jewelry items. She's got some great items over there. Feel free to pop on over for a little peek. You may just find that little added something special for a swap package or to round out a fab holiday gift.
Sharon (old roomie) and I then headed of to Tyson's Corner for some shopping fun. The original thought was to do a little early holiday shopping, or at least get a few ideas. Dontcha know we only bought things for ourselves! Ha! But I'm very happy with my day's purchases.

Today is for catching up on some blog reading and getting to work on a UVA paper and project. I'm getting ready to buckle down to some good old fashion school work and a nice cup of Hot Apple Cider, courtesy of my Fall Swap partner, Lacey. I'm sure that I'll find a reason to take a break and finish up the those fingerless gloves above. It would be a shame not to really.

How have you spent your 3 day weekend?

My life this week in photos

This is why I hate the squirrels and birds in my back yard. These are the only crops that I've successfully harvested from my backyard garden (before they've gotten to them) and I have huge doubts about what might still be to come.

How I've been spending most of my free time this week.

Taking a break this afternoon to attempt to block the pieces of Isabella. Inspiration to complete the project: Knitty KAL.

Heading to PA this weekend to visit the ol' college roomie and meet the newest memeber of her family. Taking this cute bank along to greet the little one. Alreay knitted a baby blanket last Christmas in hopes she would come along and sent Scoop through the mail to greet her upon her official arrive to the world. Wish I would have had a little more time and a few less projects already "sticked up" to have made her a little something else to take with for the offical meeting.

Took a mini field trip over to Vienna to a quaint little yarn shop, Uniquities, to find this great ribbon-like cotton yarn that I plan on using for my official Knitty KAL project, Sueet Suede. I can't wait to get started next week! If only I didn't have the other events in my life to get in the way of knitting!

FYI - lost 1 lb this week! Only 9 more to go!

button question

Ok... so I've been a little swamped with this UVA class. They are condensing an entire semester into three little weeks. Which means 300+ pages each night to read and practicum assignments just about every other day that include finding a child to "assess" and then write about it. Since I don't have children and neither do most of my friends, and most of the kids that I taught are on vacation or summer camp right now, this is not an easy task. I shouldn't complain too much. It's not that terrible... kind of interested actually. Just not a whole lot of time left over for knitting and blogging. But anyway, I wish I could post a photo of what I'm working on now.... but it's for my swap partner and I don't want to spoil anything. But I'm happy to report that I'm more than 50% done, Wa-hoo! I can't believe how fast it's going, especially since I don't feel like I'm devoting enough time to it. (or I'd rather be knitting than reading textbooks) Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to report on at the moment.

Actually though, I have a little question to throw out there. I'm trying to add a button to link to the KAL that I joined (also run my my swap buddy, Maddie) but I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone know how to help me out?
