So I guess I'm one of those geeks with no life. Or at the least, movie channels galore. Truthfully, most of these movies I've seen more than once. Ok so I feel asleep during them and had to watch it again to see what I missed. I'm sure if I had Honey check off his list he would have checked almost every one.

Gesundheit!

Being sick sucks!

I've taught in the classroom for 8 years and very rarely was I ever sick. Usually just bothered by my own personal allergies (ya know from the bad ventilation systems in the schools) and sinus infections. But this year I'm not even in the classroom and I've had one head cold after another ever since school started! I wake up every morning not being able to breathe, a bucket and a half of snot coming out of every hole in my head, my eyes watering to the point of dehydration and I'm lucky if I catch all of this before sneezing it all over the bed and floor. (Watch where you sit and step just in case.)

Now Honey is also sick and between the two of us we've gone through two whole economy sized Kleenex boxes already this weekend. I'm all into reusing things so the empty boxes are now making great little havens for all the used germy snotty Kleenexs so they can all live happily together instead of all over the floor and coffee table. I've taken stock in Lysol for how much I keep spraying around the house to try to kill any germs hanging around. I've washed my hands so much that the soap is drying up my hands and making my fingers raw as I knit. Everything I touch needs to be disinfected. It's a good thing that I'm knitting felting projects and will be washed shortly. It's also a good thing that the weather is beautiful this weekend so I can open the doors and windows to try to air out the house a little.

For those of you from WW reading this, I'm totally off plan again this weekend. My body needs additional carbs at the moment to help soak up the snot in my belly.

On a good note, I did get out of the house for a little while yesterday to do a little shopping. I promise that I tried not to breathe on anyone. Picked up some nice felting yarn to begin working on my House Along project this week. (I missed last week because Honey had family visiting from New Zealand.) And Borders was having their teacher week so I picked up a few books for Christmas gifts as well as a few freebes they were giving to teachers and three great reads for myself.

No pics for today. The house looks like an Army-Navy store exploded in it. Honey is planning on taking a four day bike trip down the C & O Canal or something or other. I'm up to my ears in all his camping and biking gear everywhere. At least the snot rags are not living amongst the gear anymore.

Answers for Chan

Chan had a few questions for me and I decided to post them here. Some of the questions might provide insite to others with whom I may be swapping with now and in the future.

1. Is there anything you love, but would never knit for yourself? I’m kind of getting into wearing wraps at work. You never know about the temperatures in these school buildings or even room to room. The wrap is so versatile and helps me to regulate my own temperature throughout my day but I have yet to knit one.

2. What colors do you dislike? Strangely enough my eyes are drawn to very bright brilliant colors but I really don’t like wearing them. Yellows and Pinks are usually not my favorite unless the yellow is very golden or it’s a paler pink paired with brown. Also, although I do like Cream (it’s part of that fall Brown family that I love so much) it doesn’t look so good on me unless I’ve gotten a really great tan over the summer.

3. What are your foot measurements/shoe size? I wear a size 9 shoe. Foot measurements include (and please let me know if I’m missing any pertinent information here): Ankle circumference – 9 inches, foot circumference – 9 inches, Foot length – 10 inches. I don’t know if this matters or not, but I have very high arches. See.4. Are you sensitive to any fibers? Do you prefer a particular fiber? I really don’t like the feel of the synthetics (acrylic and nylon) on my skin and I tend to sweat more in them. I’m finding that I like knitting with cotton and/or bamboo blends. But I still feel a little on the yarn type virgin side being that there are so many yarn types out there that I haven’t tried yet so I have no reference.

5. Does anyone other than Amy have a significant event coming up for which something special might be appropriate? I’ll be 31 in mid-October but other than that, nothing really special coming up that I know of.

6. Who is your favorite fictional character? (For instance, after wanting to be Trixie Belden most of my life, I now want to be Lisa Cuddy, even though I swear her character is modeled after a friend of mine.) Grissim from CSI maybe. I love the way he thinks and poses questions to others.

7. Is there anything you would *NOT* want me to knit for you? (Don't worry about sweaters, unless it's for a pet or a stuff animal. They're still too scary for me.) I have a drawer full of dish rags that my childhood neighbor restocks on a regular basis.

8. Of all the things you've knitted, what is your favorite? Maybe the Monkey socks I made for my Color Red Swap partner. I was very pleased at the way they came out and it was hard to give them up. But I’ve got plans for my own Monkey socks in the same yarn but a different color way. Yeah me!

And as a last thought, Chan, I would LOVE to meet you in person at some point! My schedule is open and yet constantly changing at the moment so you’ll have to call a general time frame and we’ll go from there.
Can ya tell I'm diggin' that fall is here, at least in theory?

Team Sport Scarf

So here it is. . . my very first my own pattern. Nothing too complicated, but I'm happy with it.

Team Sport Scarf

My family lives in Steeler Country and bleeds black and gold. I just knew I would need to knit up some scarves to show off our team colors during those cold winter in the 'Burgh games. This is the one that I knit up for my sister-in-law.

Materials
· I used 4 skeins of Lion Brand Microspun, two each of the team’s colors. There was almost ½ of each skein left, so depending on the length of your scarf, you might be able to use just 1 skein of each.
· Size 10 needles
· Darning needle

Gauge doesn’t matter.

Pattern was knit up holding two strands of yarn together.

Starting with team color #1, cast on 20 sts.

Work in Garter for 10 rows.

Row 11: K1, *YO, K2T*, rep from * to * until 1 st rem, K1
Row 12: K across
Row 13: K1, *K2T, YO*, rep from * to * until 1 st rem, K1
Row 14: K across
Row 15-16: repeat rows 11-12

Work in Garter for 10 rows.

Change to team color #2 and repeat pattern.

Continue changing colors and work pattern until desired length of scarf.
Bind off.

WIP Weekend

So this has been a very busy week. I won't go into all the gory details of the work week - no need to entice another migraine nor bore you to death on the trials and tribulations of my work life at the moment. Let's talk about happier things shall we?

I happen to be one of these people who have a difficult time focusing on something if the areas around me are out of sorts. I also tend to keep lots of lists for just about everything. Even though I'm addicted to the list making, it can also make me feel really overwhelmed when I'm not able to cross things off quiet as quickly as I'd like to and therefore result in OBD (Overwhelmed Breakdown Dysfunction) where nothing gets done! So I've taken today to work on a few WIP as well as a few chores around the house. See it works like this: 30-45 minutes of house cleaning then 30-45 minutes of WIP knitting. So far the house cleaning is proving to be an improvement. My pantry room hasn't been this clean and organized in months, every dish in the kitchen is finally clean and put away (we don't have a dishwasher by the way), the floors have been swept, the bed sheets and bathroom towels have been changed, and 1/2 of the laundry is finished, folded, and put away. As for the WIP, behold the wonders of my needles....

Alright so I'm not as proud of this one as I am of others. But someone gave me this yucky Patons Divine and Patons Brilliant and asked me to make them a scarf from it. Thank goodness they don't read this blog because I really hate it. And it wasn't pleasant to knit either. Neither yarn is nice to touch. The pattern was easy enough. I got it from the Knit Handmade Style book by Janie Flew. It's called "Two-toned Ruched Scarf". I think I would have liked the pattern if the yarn wasn't so yucky. The best thing I can say about this FO is that it's over with and I can now hand it over to the person who requested it and I'll never have to see it again.

Crankiness over. Let's move on to more pleasant WIPs, shall we.

This is my "Casual Bag" also from Knit Handmade Style book by Janie Flew. I just love it! One side of seaming down, one to go. And then I'll have to take a side trip to learn how to crochet because the pattern calls for crocheting one round at the top of the bag. I'm thinking this is to keep the ends from rolling down like you see here. Hopefully I'll learn in time to have it all ready to go when the leaves officially start turning around here. What a great addition to my fall wardrobe!

The mailman tried to bribe me this morning. I think he knows I have my Knit1Tea2 package all ready to be sent and I just need to get my butt to the post office to mail it off. He reminded me of my love of mail (and set in the guilt for not mailing my swap partern's package already) when he brought me this:

I had included this in Stacey's Passionate Purple Package and absolutely fell in love with it. I'm finding it very interesting reading about the history of knitting in Part 1 of the book. And there's a cool section that illustrates various knit options. Oh, and the patterns in it are great too! My plan for a few knitting breaks from now is to go through it and bookmark all the projects I want to make. Which reminds me, I really need to make a list of all the projects I have already that I want to work on as well as the yarns that I have that I plan to use with them and the yarns I still need to search for. I should also check in on what projects I'm thinking of as Christmas gifts and see how far along on those I am and what still needs to be done. Oh, the list making! I guess you could say that I'll be "makin' a list and checking it twice!"

One more WIP for now and then I'll have to get back to some cleaning so I can get back to knitting again. Over the summer I discovered The Loopy Ewe and fell in love with so many sock yarns. (See the post regarding my first order here.) I've finally decided on the pattern I'm going to use on the Lorna's Laces Tuscany sock yarn... well I think. I've already knit and frogged 4 or 5 times now and switched patterns twice because I didn't like the way the colors were working with the pattern. But finally I think I've settled on Mad Color Weave (at least I hope so!) So here it is so far:
Bad news is that I think I've already made a mistake and will need to take some time later this weekend to really sit down and concentrate on it. The pattern seems a little complicated at first but I'm hoping that it'll all make sense once I have another inch or so and things will go a little easier. But I really dig the finished look from the pattern. Wish me luck!
One more thing before I go (I hear the dryer calling me again). My friend Sarah from WW has started her own knitting blog. She's the one that I had the deal going on with over the 6 lbs and the Tofutsies yarn. She's lost her 6 and has earned her Tofutsies! Yeah, Sarah!!! And now she's starting her own blog and getting into the on-line knitting world. If ya have a moment, stop on by her blog and say hello. She's asked me for the pattern for the Steeler scarf I'm making for my sister-in-law so I think I'll post about that later this weekend. I think it's my first official me-written pattern. Nothing too fancy. But all you Steeler fans out there will want to check back and take a peek!

What will hop on the needles next???

Have you taken a peek at the new Knitty yet? Well, if you haven't you should! There are so many great patterns over there that I'm now adding to my que of future projects. I plan on checking out my stash this weekend to see what I'll need to add to it to be all prepared for spur of the moment knitting. And then I'll be heading over to a LYS that's having a sale this weekend to stock up. I'm thinking I'll change my side bar to reflect a que of future projects, especially since I haven't updated the current project list since starting this blog and my favorites bar is filling up with project web sites. I'll have to work on that this weekend too. But for now, I'll list the new Knitty projects that I'm lovin' here:

Tussie Mussie - Love the cute little detail on the sleeve and the way it it buttons up with the neckline laying open. Very casual sexy.
Roam - Totally ready for fall! Have I mentioned how much I'm such a fall baby? This is right up my style alley. But I'm thinking the sizing and seaming on this one is still a little out of my league at the moment. But a gal can wish and dream, right? Something to aspire to.
Cherie Amour - A must have at the top of my list! How sexy and flirtatous! La-ove it!!!
Mr. Greenjeans - What a great casual look for the weekend or comfey work days. And at first glance it would appear that no seaming is necessary! Double bonus!!
Totally Autumn - I've been looking for a great little throw pattern and this has a great interesting pattern that shouldn't bore me with all the repeats to actually finish the project.
Woodins - Alright, so I don't know why I would make this. But I couldn't resist including it. Can I just say adorable.
Flower Power - His face says it all!

Is it NOT Monday yet?

Can there really be more to this day than there already has been?!?!? I'm ready for bed and it's only 7:40. There's just a few things I felt I needed to address before I retire for the evening. And maybe I'll check in on a few other blogs before nodding off.

#1 - Pay It Forward
I think I have my 3 people set up for the fun. If I'm correct, Becka, Stacey, and my anonymous swapper from the Knit1Tea2 Swap are in. (Stacey, if I'm wrong on this one, please let me know. It's ok if it's not a good time for this right now.) I hope they have posted their Pay It Forward promises or will be doing so shortly. "How I can pay it forward to the anonymous swapper when they are obviously anonymous," you ask? Well, I'm thinking I can make a little something special and then hopefully they'll email me at wneider at hotmail dot com with their address (with a tangy little swapper name to address it to) and I can send it anyway. Or maybe they are thinking of letting up on the little secret when they send the package. I'm not sure. This is my first secret swap. I'm still not clear on how that end part works. Either way, I think it'll work. Besides, no one else raised their hands to the challenge, oh, I mean fun.
#2 - Tea accessories
Speaking of the anonymous Knit1Tea2 swapper, he/she has asked to see how I enjoy my tea. On the left is my tea kettle that I use when I'm feeling like I'm in for multiple cups of tea or making a big jug of iced tea. But quite frankly I've been guilty of just heating up mugs of water in the microwave lately. I've also included my three favorite mugs - one for those dreamy get away tea sippings after a very long day (using it now!), one for enjoying while knitting in the afternoon and/or evening, and one as my travel mug that goes with me everywhere in the schools.

On the right is the cast iron kettle and tea cups that I got Honey last year for Christmas from Teavana. He's usually the one who busts out with brewing in this fashion when we're both in the mood for a little piece of heaven. Hope this helps!

#3 - Swapper creations
For the Knit1Tea2 swap there are all sorts of goodies that are going into the packaging that will be mailed out very shorty. And since my swap partner has no idea who I am, I can show you a little part of what I'm including in her package:

Shhhhh... Don't tell her I showed you.
#4 - Honey's fun on wheels
There's a whole mess of a background story that goes along with Honey getting his VA motorcyclist licence.... but it gives me a headache to think about it. So you'll just have to oooh and aaww over the 2-wheeled death machine by itself without the whole background story.
Actually, I kind of like the look of it. But none the less, you won't find me out cruising the streets with him on this one. A man's gotta have a little fun to keep him happy right?
Ok... the tea is running out. Time for another cup, or a nice down pillow... hmmmm... Tough decision.

Take a look at that ticker!!!

Did ya notice? Did ya notice? Go ahead, take another look at it. Do you see what happened there tonight? I went down 3.6 lbs this week!!! Can you believe it?! I am so beside myself right now. I had them triple check it because I didn't believe them.

Actually I'm really surprised because it's been quite a stressful week at work and I feel like I've eaten like crap all week. In fact yesterday's dinner consisted of an entire box (16 cookies) of Sugar Free Oreos and a large glass of Skim Milk, oh and a bowl of steamed veggies. I still haven't completely kicked the shadow of the headache that had me begging for mercy over the weekend. My body doesn't feel like it lost 3.6 pounds. In fact I dragged myself to the meeting tonight intending to assess the damage I've done because I feel like such crap.

Some things I did do right this week was my water to Diet Coke ratio. So I'm celebrating tonight with a Diet Barq's with dinner. And even though I haven't done my walking after work (the knee is no longer swollen, but still slightly sore and stiff but definitely working itself out), I've been walking like crazy all over the schools during the day. They sure have kept me busy this week!

So I have officially broke the 150 barrier I've been stuck at since Thanksgiving. It feels so good to be in the 140's even if it's just barely there. Only 4.8 to go! Maybe by Christmas?

There's still room in my Pay It Forward if anyone is interested. It's just a few posts down if you want to check it out.

H, FT, and FO - What a weekend!

Thank goodness this weekend was a three day weekend! Otherwise, we would have had to deal with student's first day back way too soon! Actually, I'm still not completely sure that I'm ready for them to come back even after today's first full day with students. I'm not ready to talk about all the fun stuff that goes along with school starting, so let's just focus on the happenings from the weekend..........

It all began on Friday, which should have been a 1/2 day for teachers and staff, but we all know that whether they are being paid or not, teachers will stay at school until the wee hours of the night the Friday before students arrive to get their rooms prepared and everything perfect for the first day. And so it goes without saying that I was requested for meetings Friday afternoon after the official end of the day. The whole day was going by in a sort of fog and I had that feeling like I really should just go home and go to bed before something drastic happens. Lesson learned - ALWAYS listen to that feeling!!! Read on. By the time I got home, a raging migraine had begun to invade my body and tear all of it's senses to ripping shreds. Poor Honey was looking forward to a sweet little date night out and instead he got a pre-PMSing (started that on Sunday), crying, partially dieing, miserable migraine to somehow share his dinner with (hopefully without it returning to the table unexpectedly) and share the couch with while watching rented movies over the snoring and moaning. Needless to say, neither of us really enjoyed our Friday night date night. Throughout the night was rough as well, with me only getting 1 to 2 hours of sleep at a time before waking up to the monster clawing his way out of my skull and pulling with him the gremlin living within my stomach. This experience was proving to me that the fabulous meds that my loving doctor prescribed were obviously NOT working. Much stronger drugs were going to be needed if I was ever going to survive this one. So at 7:30 Saturday morning, I drug myself from bed to beg Honey to take me to the Hospital for the "real stuff." The kind nurses (a total of 4) all tried their hand at inserting an IV with no such luck as I laid there helpless and with my brain cells exploding by the minute. Finally someone came by with the magical pills - or so they called them magical, even though after two magical pills, finally an IV of the even better stuff, and several hours of in and out of consciousness, the headache was still there. However, I decided I was in a much better situation now being that I was sooooooo beyond cloud 9 at that point that I really didn't care that I had a headache and all I wanted to do was to go home and sleep it off. So goes my Saturday.

On Sunday, my dear friend Ruth had arranged for us to take a little field trip to a LYS (actually located on the other end of DC) that her friend has opened. With still a slight ringing in my head, off we went. We enjoyed a wonderfully delicious lunch at Franklin's and then spent a little time browsing the adjacent shop for fun tidbits to add to our Knit1Tea2 swap partners. What a great store! Since Honey had taken off that morning to go help build the house, I couldn't help but by him some gummy bacon to reward him for a good hard day's work (and to thank him for getting up so early and being so patient with me while I screamed in pain at the nice needle ladies poking and prodding my arms, hands, and wrists the day before). We then spent many an hour browsing the lovely shelves of The Tangled Skein. Have I mentioned my compulsion to touch fabrics and yarns? But then again who wouldn't with all that fabulouso color happening all around you? So what won my heart over this time?
Ruth and I both decided on making this great little casual bag on the cover of my Knit book. So we picked out some great Noro Silk Garden, mine in colorway #239. I'm thinking the colors are a nice relaxed fall colorway. It's got it's browns, autumn reds, and muted blues. I can't wait to see how it comes out.

Some more Tofutsies! The one on the left is mine and I'm already thinking of the pattern they will be perfect for. The one of the right is for Sarah, a gal from WW who also knits. It's going to be her reward for making a short term WW goal. I'm going to woo her through her first pair of socks.... scary thought, I know.

And last, but not least, this ultra adorable pattern for some fabulous felted bags that I'm thinking I'll felt up as some Christmas gifts. Dontcha just love the flowers and how they vine up the strap?! Sunday was a good day even if the shadow of the beast was still hanging around.

On to FO Monday. Oh no, not Freaking Out because it's Monday, no work remember? No, I'm talking FINISHED OBJECT MONDAY!!! How much fun were these socks?! And how great do they look on me?!

Maybe it's just me, but my feet rock! Have you ever seen such great looking feet?! I'll await the calls from my agent for those foot model calls. Thanks again Stacey for sharing your love of purple. The Virtuous Vixens of Violetville will have to pry these babies from these tootsies!

Over all the weekend started off as a real bust, but success was able to be pulled off in the end. (We just won't mention that I was planning on working on the seaming for Isabella and never got around to it. Don't spoil my moment will ya.)

Is there anyone out there?

I still have all three spots left on the Pay It Forward. If you actually read my blog, then alert the masses by mentioning it to your friends and knitting family. It would be lovely to meet a few new people this way and to get to know them by adding them to my list of blogs to frequently read.
